1008 Swami Bhawananda Giri Maharaj popularly known as Shri Guru Pitaji Maharaj (formerly Bhawani Prasanna Pyne) was born in the year 1896 in an astute and affluent family of Varanasi. Since childhood he had a great cultural and historic bend which made him famous among his friends and companions. He was God fearing and has great faith in God and also inclined towards pujas and religious activities but at the same time he was apathetic to Sadhus & Saints who were in abundance at Varanasi. He also became a fervent follower of Srimat Swami Mahananda Giri Maharaj. Bhawani engrossed so much himself in his Guru that later he was chosen to be the successor of Srimat Swami Mahananda Giri Maharaj.
